Lathan and I were both born and raised in Bradley County, Arkansas, and attended the now defunct Banks Schools, where his father, Silas Woodard, was a teacher and basketball coach. We grew up "just across the creek" from each other and were married there in 1964. We have lived in Saline County, Arkansas all these years, but still consider Bradley County our home.
I served two terms on the Arkansas Genealogical Society Board, and during that time realized that research was more important to me than serving on a prominent board.
Lathan is retired from Alcoa and I will be retiring this summer from a career as an OB-Gyn nurse. I am hoping this leaves me with more time for research.
In 1975 I began delving into family and county history and realized how very little information there was in the mainstream of genealogy regarding Bradley County. I began compiling books of information and shared those with the Bradley County Genealogical Society and our Bradley County webpage on rootsweb.
Through the years I have collected between 15,000 and 20,000 obituaries for Bradley County dating back to 1841. A fire at the Eagle Democrat office in the 1940s destroyed all issues prior to 1930.
Our goal is to provide a reasonable service to researchers interested in family information and county history. Contact us if we can help or point you in the right direction.
